Inner Packaging
Fresh fruits and vegetables require several types of packaging inside the master shipping containers. These packaging elements perform the following tasks:
- Securing and/or cushioning to prevent bruising. Examples of these elements include form fitted plastic trays, top and bottom pads and sleeves.
- Simple packing or product separation, such as dividers and sheets.
- Bundling devices, including rubber bands, twist ties and bunch tags.
- Branded and generic consumer packaging, such as baskets, clamshells, bags and stand-up pouches.
- Treatment and atmosphere changing products, such as SO2 pads and liners for table grapes or oxygen and/or ethylene changing devices to modify respiration and ripening rates.
Many of these items are stocked in Distribution Center locations where the items are used regularly. This allows for just-in-time needs or bundling the items with containers or unitizing materials for "matched set" delivery or pick up.
